Artist's Comments

This work was started shortly after my Organic Chem final. In Organic we study alot of drugs and since it's the hardest class you can possibly ever take at any undergrad level, I drank alot of coffee. Hence, throught that experience, this painting came about. By the way, all the molecules here are common and not-so common stimulants. By the way, I got a -B. Ha HA!

There is alot of stuff here that I really don't feel like getting into right now. Besides, I'd like to know what you, the viewer, thinks about some of the details and how those details, along with the color and whatnot make you feel. Please feel free to dissect my work.

I'm experimenting right now with my art and its thematic effectiveness. I want the viewer to look at a piece and feel a certain way. Then I want to make their eyes focus on certain details in order for them to further grasp the theme that I'd further enforced by the feeling they get when they first look at it.

What do you think?

QUICK FACTS ABOUT PIECE:

1. The mouth on the top left is modeled from the artist.
2. There is the outline of a 'Buddha' sitting on a disapearing pill bottle in the center (wearing a saffron robe).
3. There are a total of two cups of coffee in the work.
4. The molecule next to the cigarrette is nicoteine.
5. The molecule that is in the 'eye' of the nitrogen atom (red ball -- pill as eye) is cocaine.
6. The pink pills are Ritalin, the orange and red pills are Adderall, potent stimulants used to treat ADHD*.
7. The black balls are carbon atoms (Notice the "C" on the ball on the upper right).
8. The red balls are nitrogen atoms.
9. The blue balls are oxygen atoms.
10. Carbon has only four bonds and is is the substance life is made out of (our DNA is a helix chain of carbons atoms).
11. The work was done in an acrylic medium, which is a synthetic or chemically altered medium.
12. IUPAC nomenclature as well as ball and stick modeling were very important in working with this piece.

* it is interesting that they use powerful stimulants to treat a 'hyper activity' disorder.

Organic STIMULUS is a wonderful piece of art which combines wacky art and mad science.......which are almost the same, in their own special way. The technique and colors that *archetype-- chose is nothing short of amazing. There is so much to see, that it is sure to capture your eyes for quite a while. Hey, and it's a print too! Thanks to for making such an awesome piece of art! (Suggested by ~scun and Featured by `dinyctis)

Wow. First of all I'd like to say wow because this is really something great, to me. There is so much detail and so much to look at. You see something and it leads your eye to the next and so on. So I could stare at this for a long while and always find something I hadn't seen earlier.

I know nothing of any sort of Chemistry except whatever I might have retained from my 10th grade class, (which isn't much if anything at all) so I don't know what anything here might be. That doesn't matter though, it's still awesome to look at.

Well it makes me feel frustrated, not really just thats what I get from it. Its like all this information being jammed into my head right before a test and everything is so cluttered and nothing makes sense. Yeah thats really what it makes me remember, rather. Remembering that makes me laugh at myself. Oh and the the figures hanging from the pill container, blue and red. The red one is like "Help me buddy I don't know what I'm doing! I'm so lost, I'm gonna bomb this quiz" and the blue one is all "Okay dood but really I don't know much more then what you do. I'm just barely hanging on!" Haha.

I'm not a critic by the way. I've never dissected anything more complicated then a pig fetus. I'll probably look at this later and be like "Hey! Look a that I didnt see that before... what does it mean?"

Amazing stuff. The colors are so great, too, so vibrant and in your face! That really emphasizes the feeling of urgency you'd get before an exam or something.

Great piece. :D I would so buy this if it was a print and I had money! And I'd give a copy to my chem teacher and be like "This is how you make me feel"!

:clap:WOW! this piece is cool as shit! i was just browsing and your piece totally caught my eye. i absoulutely love the colors, the fluid lines in the mad bluish coffee cup and the mad coffee. You gave the small humans great muscle contrast! i luv the man within the flames and how you made the flames symetrical fluidity. there is so much movement that my eyes just flow everywhere like i'm in a relaxed trance........beautiful colors. i wish you were selling this as a print or as a desktop wallpaper! :worship: MAD PROPS!!!!!!!!! :worship:

i luv :spam:....got a problem with that :sumo:

very awesome heh. i kinda feel blown outta the water by the previous comments but I like this just as much. The colors, form, and flow to this really caught my eye. I usually like off-beat style with a 'modern' effect to it. very awaesome and definately a favorite.

The first thing I noticed was the teeth on both. I'm also picking up the feeling of uncontrolled anger/irritability (spelling?)

Like, when you want to do something, but it isn't possible, that kind of anger. Where you're sort of stuck and there is nothing you can do. The use of crisp colors are a plus, thats for sure. I usually have sloppier work, but on purpose though (its all for the sake of the theme).

Let me tell you how glad I am to see someone like you. You're creating art for a reason, not just because its "cool" or whatnot. I've seen too much fanart/anime that is completely pointless. You, on the other hand, have suggessted a theme for your work, and that makes me feel a bit better.

Yeah, I was definiately going for a sort of irritable, anxious, almost displaced feeling that you get from drinking to much coffee or having to go poop when you can't.

Thank you for the comment and assurance, that's why I keep on doing this stuff.
:iconarchetype--:
thanks for the comment. If you look at my work "CONTORL" the blue and red guy are in closeup.
:iconarchetype--:
Awesome comment! Thanks. You were the first person to comment on this work. And also, thankfully, you pretty much nailed it as far as feeling and interpretation go. I'll have a print up in a little while. Thank you again for your comments. It's nice to know that I was successful to some extent in conveying what was meant to be conveyed and didn't waste all my time.

If you're ever in Tampa, give me a call, you can see it in person.

Also, if any of you want to know about some details in here, just ask. That is, if you don't know what something is, just ask the chem wizz and artist; me.
:icondaliflores:
alright that would rock :D I'm glad I was the first commen x3
